Hari Bansha Acharya: A Nepali Legend

Hari Bansha Acharya, a multi-talented Nepalese artist, is celebrated for his versatile skills as an actor, comedian, director, singer, and writer, with a reputation for his exceptional method acting. He is renowned as one half of the iconic comedy duo MaHa Jodi, alongside fellow comedian Madan Krishna Shrestha. One of his notable roles was as Arjun in the 1997 patriotic drama film “Balidaan.” Additionally, his portrayal in the series “Madan Bahadur and Hari Bahadur” has garnered widespread recognition. Notably, Acharya wrote and starred in the acclaimed film “Shatru Gatey.”

Born on 27 Kartik 2014 BS (13 November 1957 AD) in Gairidhara, Kathmandu, to Homanjaya Acharya and Ganesh Kumari, Acharya’s journey in entertainment began in 2031 BS (1974 AD) on Radio Nepal, where he collaborated with Hari Prasad Rimal and Jitendra Mahat Avilashi. Subsequently, he joined Rastriya Naach Ghar in 2032 BS (1975 AD) and showcased his talent in the Gaijatra Mahotsav in 2034 BS (1977 AD). Before teaming up with Madan Krishna Shrestha, Acharya honed his craft in the entertainment industry for nearly six years.

Acharya’s contributions extend to the silver screen, with memorable performances in films such as “Lovipapi,” “Filim,” “Rajamati,” “Silu,” “Balidaan,” “Je Bho Ramrai Bho,” and “Tah Ta Sarhai Bigris Ni Badri.” Among these, his role in “Balidaan” stands out as exemplary. Furthermore, his comedic prowess shines in beloved series like “Lal Purja,” “Pandra Gatay,” “Bhakunde Bhoot,” “Hari Bahadur and Madan Bahadur Series,” “50/50,” and “Dashain ko Chyangra.”

Beyond entertainment, Acharya is committed to social causes. In 2015, he established The Meera Centre in honor of his late wife, Meera Acharya, to provide health and educational services for children under five years old. His dedication to social issues was evident during the April Uprising in Nepal, where he and Shrestha played active roles, earning admiration from the Nepalese populace.

Acharya’s artistic legacy is not confined to entertainment; it extends to his impactful social contributions, marking him as a revered figure in Nepalese society.
