Nepali Film ‘Gorkha Warrior’ Makes BAFTA History

In a historic moment for Nepali cinema, the international film “Gorkha Warrior” has been selected for the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) award. Directed by Milan Chams, the film’s recognition at BAFTA, considered one of the most prestigious awards globally after the Oscars, marks a significant milestone in Nepali film history.

Director Milan Chams expressed his pride, stating, “It is a matter of pride for the Nepali film industry that ‘Gorkha Warrior’ has been selected for the prestigious British award BAFTA, especially when the British citizens hold Gorkha soldiers in high regard.”

The BAFTA nominations include a diverse array of European and Hollywood films, with “Gorkha Warrior” standing out among the contenders. Milan Chams revealed that the film would compete in multiple categories, such as Best Film, Director, Actor, Film (except English), and Best British Film.

On January 18, 2024, the top five nominees in each category will be unveiled. The highly anticipated award ceremony is scheduled for February 18, 2024, at the South Bank Center in London, where the nominated films will be celebrated across various categories.

Starring Ritesh Chams in his acting debut alongside an ensemble cast featuring Vijay Lama, Rebika Gurung, Rear Rai, Shishir Bangdel, Kabita Ale, Biroop Ghale, Sara Rai, and more, “Gorkha Warrior” is set to hit screens in Nepal around the months of Falgun or Chaitra. This recognition at BAFTA brings global acclaim to Nepali cinema and showcases its growing influence on the international stage.
