Shweta Khwaunju Is The MakeUp Artist of The Month
Shweta Khwaunju is a professional make-up artist whose love for beauty began as a child. What started as hours of watching tutorials and experimenting with colors gradually evolved into a full-fledged career. Over the years, she has come to view make-up not just as a way to create flawless looks, but as a means to enhance natural beauty and help people feel confident in their own skin.
A Journey into the Beauty World
Shweta’s career began in Sydney, Australia, where she landed her first professional role as a beauty advisor at Sephora. From there, she gained valuable experience working with internationally renowned brands, and her work has been featured on official pages of major brands such as Fenty Beauty and Huda Beauty in 2018.
She later joined Chanel as a beauty advisor and make-up artist for four years, honing her skills and developing a refined sense of artistry. Today, Shweta works independently as a professional make-up artist and has contributed her expertise to two major Nepali films, Farki Farki and Jerry on Top.

Inspirations and Signature Style
Shweta’s experience at Chanel significantly shaped her approach to make-up. She emphasizes practicality, timeless styles, and enhancing natural features rather than following fleeting trends. Her philosophy is simple yet powerful: polished, understated looks that empower women to feel confident in their own skin.
Tailoring Looks: Bridal vs. Editorial
Shweta approaches bridal shoots with a focus on the individual bride – her personality, preferences, and emotions on her special day. Each look is crafted to reflect the bride’s vision while keeping her authentic.
For fashion and editorial projects, Shweta collaborates closely with creative teams to bring concepts to life. These shoots are designed to tell a story or highlight trends, requiring make-up that complements the overall vision.

Rising to the Challenge
One of Shweta’s most challenging assignments was a TVC ad where she created three distinct looks for the same character at different ages: young, middle-aged, and old. With a tight deadline of one day, she relied on careful planning, methodical execution, and a deep understanding of textures and character details. The project pushed her creativity and skills, leaving her with a rewarding sense of accomplishment.
Tips for Aspiring Artists
Shweta shares three essential tips for beginners:
- Prep the Skin – Proper skin preparation is the foundation of a successful look. Without it, even high-quality products cannot achieve their full effect.
- Less is More – Apply minimal product at first and build gradually. Working with the skin, rather than covering it, helps maintain a natural, balanced look.
- Spot Conceal Before Foundation – Targeted concealing before foundation prevents cakiness and ensures an even, smooth complexion.

Debunking Common Myths
Shweta emphasizes that make-up cannot completely hide texture or create perfectly smooth skin. Instead, it is meant to enhance and even out features. She encourages embracing natural texture as part of what makes skin beautiful.
Essential Tools
She recommends key tools every artist should invest in:
- A high-quality foundation brush or beauty blender for even application.
- A flat concealer brush for precise coverage.
- Reliable setting powder and setting spray to ensure a flawless, long-lasting finish.

Beauty Philosophy
Shweta’s personal mantra is “less is more.” She believes in simple, effective routines that give the skin exactly what it needs. Her daily regimen includes a gentle cleanser, vitamin C serum, moisturizer (often with vitamin E), and sunscreen, with the occasional addition of toner. She avoids overloading the skin with unnecessary products, emphasizing that simplicity produces the best results.
