ZESSTY Is The Spotlight Artist of The Month of The Buzz Nepal

Deepika Tamang, widely known by her stage name ZESSTY, is a dancer and choreographer from Basantapur, Nepal. A battle dancer at heart, she has been passionate about dance since childhood. She represents MADEIT, a duo team, and The Wings, an all-girl crew she has been part of for many years. Zessty is also an active member of Waacking Nepal and the Nepal Krump Movement, communities dedicated to preserving and pushing their respective dance styles. Through national and international battle platforms, she and her teams proudly represent Nepal, sharing its culture, creativity, and raw energy with the world.

Zessty chose her stage name because it perfectly reflects both her dance style and personality. Her core styles are Waacking, Krump, and Hip-hop, though she enjoys exploring other forms as well.

The name “ZESSTY” represents something spicy, flavorful, and energetic, a word that resonates strongly with today’s generation. According to her, her energy feels like a one-shot explosion on stage, even without drinking anything. “I simply love the name, and ZESSTY truly represents who I am as a dancer.”

When Zessty begins choreographing a new piece, the first thing she focuses on is the song’s meaning and emotional tone. She listens closely to what the music is saying and the feeling it carries, then uses movement to express and translate that emotion.

While doing so, she stays true to her personal style. She often incorporates girly movements and thoughtfully blends them with Hip-hop elements, aiming to create choreography that feels expressive, balanced, and deeply connected to the music.

Zessty draws inspiration from many artists around the world. In choreography, she is influenced by creators such as Rehata, Melvin Tim Tim, JoJo Gomez, and Yesebel, among others.

In battle culture, her strongest inspirations include dancers like Lip J, Ibuki, Reina, and Tight Eyez. These artists have played a major role in shaping her growth, mindset, and artistic evolution.

Being part of The Wings has been an incredibly rewarding experience for Zessty. Creating choreography as a team allows different ideas, styles, and energies to merge, often resulting in something more powerful than what she could create alone. Collaboration pushes her to think differently, adapt, and grow, while drawing inspiration from each member’s unique approach.

On the other hand, creating solo choreography is a more personal and introspective process. It gives her the freedom to explore her emotions, ideas, and individuality without limits. Both experiences are equally fulfilling, and balancing the two has helped her grow significantly as both a dancer and choreographer.

When working with musicians or directors, Zessty believes in maintaining a healthy balance between respecting the director’s vision and contributing her own creativity. She adapts to the concept and story being told, while also bringing her signature style, energy, and ideas to enhance the performance.

She sees collaboration as a shared creative journey, where the best results come from seamlessly blending the director’s vision with her personal artistic identity.

Zessty wishes audiences could see choreography as more than just steps. For her, dance is about storytelling, emotion, and communication. Every movement carries intention, shaped through hours of creativity, experimentation, and refinement.

Even the smallest details are carefully crafted to convey a specific feeling or message. When audiences can feel the intention and energy behind the movements, the performance becomes far more meaningful and impactful.

One of Zessty’s all-time favorite choreographies is “Jasari Huncha” by Dixita. She loved creating it because it allowed her to experiment with girly and elegant movements, which were not very common in Nepal at the time. Her goal was to make something fresh, graceful, and accessible for all girls.

She instantly fell in love with the choreography and felt incredibly grateful when audiences embraced it with the same enthusiasm. Even today, it remains a piece she could happily dance to every single day.

If given just one minute to teach a dance, Zessty would choose “Baby Baby” by Ujan. It’s one of her easiest and most fun choreographies, loved by audiences not only in Nepal but also in India. Its simplicity and playful energy make it perfect for quick learning and fun for everyone.

Waacking is the one style Zessty is determined to master. As a battle dancer, her goal is to win Waacking battles around the world. Beyond competitions, she also hopes to create Waacking choreographies for music videos, films, and other creative projects. Waacking is her deepest passion and the style she wants to perfect.

When it comes to global collaborations, Zessty’s dream artist is Chris Brown. As one of her favorite performers, working with him on a music video or dance project would be a dream come true and a major milestone in her career.
