Indian Whisky Indri Crowned World’s Best Single Malt
In a momentous achievement for the Indian whisky industry, Indri Diwali Collector’s Edition 2023, popularly known as Indri whisky, has been bestowed with the prestigious title of the world’s best single malt by Whiskies of the World. This remarkable recognition was earned at one of the largest whisky-tasting competitions on a global scale, where over 100 diverse varieties of whiskies from around the world went head-to-head.
Indri whisky, proudly crafted by Piccadily Distilleries in Haryana, India, stands out as a peated single malt whisky. What sets peated whiskies apart is the infusion of a smoky flavor achieved through the use of peat fires during the drying process of malted barley. The degree of peat smoke defines the intensity of this distinctive flavor profile.
Made from six-row barley and distilled in traditional Indian copper pot stills, Indri whisky offers a sensory journey that includes notes of smoke, candied dried fruits, toasted nuts, subtle spices, oak, and bittersweet chocolate. This delightful elixir is already available in 19 states across India and 17 other countries, with plans to launch in the United States and select European nations in November 2023.
The Whiskies of the World Awards serve as a revered platform for the global whisky industry, allowing producers and distilleries to showcase their exceptional products. Unlike blended whiskies, single malt whiskies are crafted exclusively from one distillery and one variety of malted grain, typically malted barley. Notably, a single malt can be a blend of casks from the same distillery, provided they maintain the singular origin, making Indri whisky a worthy recipient of the world’s best single malt distinction.
This remarkable recognition underscores India’s rising prominence in the world of whisky, joining the ranks of other renowned Indian single malt whiskies such as Amrut Fusion, Paul John Mithuna, Rampur Double Cask Single Malt Whisky, Paul John Brilliance, Rampur Asava, and Kamet Single Malt. Indri whisky’s journey to becoming the world’s best single malt is a testament to India’s growing influence in the global spirits industry.
