‘Jaar’: A Cinematic Dive into Nepal’s Past

In an upcoming Nepali film titled “Jaar,” acclaimed actors Geetanjali Thapa, Saugat Malla, and Anoop Bikram Shahi take center stage in a narrative deeply rooted in history. The movie, based on Indra Bahadur Rai’s renowned short story, explores the social tradition and moral complexities surrounding a practice that gained legal status during the rule of Jung Bahadur Rana, the Prime Minister and Commander-in-Chief of Nepal from 1846 to 1877.

The historical proclamation, “A man may cut his jaar down straight away,” sets the backdrop for this cinematic journey, delving into the unique social dynamics and moral dilemmas prevalent in Nepal during the 1890 era. The film promises to provide viewers with a captivating glimpse into the cultural intricacies and societal norms of that period.

Starring Geetanjali Thapa, Saugat Malla, and Anoop Bikram Shahi, “Jaar” is set to bring to life the compelling narrative originally penned by Indra Bahadur Rai.
