A Nepali Play Sets Off on a 40-Day European Tour

After its recent showing in Kathmandu’s Battisputali theatre, “Lost and Found” – a play by Shilpee Theatre Nepal – is headed for Europe. Beginning 8 July 2025, the team will travel across Germany, Denmark, and Sweden, presenting 12 performances, hosting multiple workshops, and engaging in a 40-day cultural exchange until 16 August 2025.

The play, which ran from 17 to 31 May 2025 at Shilpee Theatre, offered daily shows (except Tuesdays) and Saturday matinees, drawing audiences with its emotional storytelling and expressive stage presence.

Set in a cafe, “Lost and Found” follows Bhumi, a tourist guide raised by a single mother, and Sagar, a Canadian traveller visiting Nepal for peace. As they talk, their conversation drifts between reality and imagination, touching on personal struggles, memory, and identity. Bhumi’s lack of citizenship, mental health issues, and complex past blend with Sagar’s dissatisfaction in married life, all culminating in a debate at Buddha’s palace that opens larger questions about life, belief, and belonging.

Directed and written by Ghimire Yubaraj, the cast includes Pavitra Khadka, Sumit Bhandari, Suhana Acharya, and Govinda Oli. Reflecting on the tour, Ghimire shares:

My friends in Europe want to see what we are creating here in Kathmandu. It’s a special gathering with theatre artists from the East and the North. It’s not just a play- it’s a moment of exchanging love and humanity. It’s also a voice against borders and barriers.

This journey is more than a tour; it is a heartfelt offering of stories and solidarity across continents.
