Skateboarding Takes Over Kathmandu: Go Skateboarding Day 2025 Celebrated with Passion and Unity

Skateboarding enthusiasts in Kathmandu united with communities across the globe to celebrate Go Skateboarding Day 2025 on Saturday, June 21st. The vibrant event not only highlighted the sport’s rising popularity in Nepal but also underscored the passion and creative energy of the country’s skateboarding youth.

A Global Celebration with a Local Pulse

Established in 2004, Go Skateboarding Day is observed annually on June 21 to promote skateboarding culture and community engagement. In 2025, the global event pulsed with even greater enthusiasm, and Nepal’s capital, Kathmandu, stood out with its unique and spirited contribution.

This year, the local celebration brought together around 70–80 skaters, including 50 participants who actively competed in a high-energy competition at the Skaters Nepal Skatepark. The event drew in spectators, supporters, and newcomers eager to witness the creativity and skill of Kathmandu’s skateboarding community.

A Morning of Movement and Meaning

The day began with a symbolic rally from Budanilkantha to the Skaters Nepal Skatepark, where skaters of all ages rolled together in solidarity. The rally, which weaved through the bustling streets of the city, was more than just a ride, it was a moving expression of unity, dedication, and freedom that defines the sport.

The impactful event was initiated by Project Whatever, a youth-driven initiative promoting alternative culture, in collaboration with Skaters Nepal, the country’s pioneering skateboarding collective. Their shared mission: to grow the skateboarding community, encourage active youth participation, and spotlight the power of creative self-expression.
