Strength with Purpose: Sukadev Karki’s Mission to Redefine Fitness in Nepal

In Nepal’s growing fitness scene, Sukadev Karki stands out not only as an athlete but also as an educator and visionary trainer. The founder of the National Youth Fitness Academy (NYFA) and a national representative in bodybuilding, powerlifting, and calisthenics, Sukadev is on a mission to redefine what fitness truly means. For him, it’s more than just building a physique – it’s about discipline, character, preventive health, and lifestyle transformation.

Sukadev’s fitness journey began in the UK, initially as a simple hobby. However, after placing 3rd in his very first bodybuilding competition in 2014, his passion grew serious. Immersed in global fitness culture and business practices, he realized that Nepal lacked the same accessible opportunities and education in fitness. Determined to change that, he returned home to create something greater for the youth.

Though internationally certified, Sukadev believes that true success goes beyond medals and certificates. “Success isn’t just about medals or muscles – it’s mindset, discipline, and the courage to keep learning,” he says.

Through National Youth Fitness & Calisthenics, Sukadev is working to make bodyweight training accessible across Nepal. His message is simple yet powerful: start small, stay consistent, and avoid harmful shortcuts. Even two short workouts a week, he stresses, can spark long-term transformation for beginners and enthusiasts alike.

For Sukadev, fitness is built on three pillars that he treats as non-negotiables:

  • Strength training daily – no excuses.
  • Clean nutrition – junk food stays off the table.
  • Lifelong learning – whether from books, people, or experiences.

These habits, he believes, form the foundation not just for fitness, but for personal growth and resilience in life.

Sukadev’s athletic achievements reflect his discipline and dedication:

  • Bodybuilding: Multiple podium finishes at Mr. Himalaya, Mr. Nepal, Mr. Kathmandu, and International Men’s Physique.
  • Powerlifting: Overall Champion titles at Rup Classic (2021, 2022) and Barbenders (2018).

True to his mission of accessibility, Sukadev shares workouts that anyone can try, regardless of their fitness level. His quick 25-minute workout plan is structured for beginners, intermediates, and advanced athletes.

Warm-Up (3–4 mins): Light jogging + 5 Surya Namaskars

  • Beginners: Pull-ups, push-ups, squats (3 rounds, 20–40 seconds each)
  • Intermediate: Add lunges, dips, pike push-ups, rows, pistol squats
  • Advanced: Increase speed/resistance; try muscle-ups, L-sits, handstands
  • 10 towel rows
  • 10 squats
  • 10 push-ups
  • 10 walking lunges
  • Cooldown (5–7 mins): Stretch + 2–3 minutes of relaxation

Even two days a week, he assures, can make a difference.
