2025 IFSC Asian Youth Championship

Kicks Off on August 20 in Guiyang, Guizhou

211 Young Athletes to Compete Across Six Disciplines

The press conference for the 2025 International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC) Asian Youth Championships was recently held at the Guizhou Provincial Sports Bureau. Officials announced that the event will take place from August 20 to 24 at the Guizhou Caihu International Climbing Center in Guanshanhu Park, Guiyang City. A total of 211 young athletes from across Asia will compete in men’s and women’s speed climbing, lead climbing, and bouldering across the U17 and U19 categories.

Hosted by IFSC Asia, and jointly organized by the Mountaineering Administrative Center of the General Administration of Sport of China, Chinese Mountaineering Association, Guizhou Provincial Sports Bureau, and Guiyang Municipal People’s Government, the competition is recognized as an A-level event certified by IFSC Asia.

China is fielding a 40-member team, including two rising stars from Guizhou: Meng Shixue, who defended her U19 women’s speed gold medal at the 2025 World Youth Climbing Championships in Helsinki, and Wang Chunyouxuan, who won the U17 women’s speed bronze medal.

Guanshanhu District, the host location, is recognized as a National Ecological Civilization Construction Demonstration Zone, with excellent air quality (99.5% in 2024), 45.96% forest coverage, and per capita park green area of 17.42 square meters. Known as the “Urban Green Lung”, Guanshanhu Park provides a scenic and environmentally sustainable backdrop for the championships.

The Guizhou Caihu International Climbing Center is a standard IFSC-certified competition venue. Its climbing walls integrate advanced domestic and international course design, with angle accuracy errors controlled within 0.5°. The facility meets Olympic-level requirements for speed, lead, and bouldering while ensuring athlete safety with a modern protection system.

In recent years, Guanshanhu District has pursued a strategy of “leveraging sports events to drive regional tourism.” Large-scale cultural and sports venues, including Guiyang Olympic Sports Center and Guanshanhu Ecological Sports Park, have been built to support international competitions.

For this championship, the district has integrated “event + culture + consumption” to enhance the spectator experience. Highlights include a “Roadside Concert by the Climbing Wall”, blending ethnic performances such as Dong Chorus and Miao Songs with contemporary music, and an outdoor themed market featuring food, travel, entertainment, and cultural products. Visitors will enjoy premium coffee, craft beer, gourmet dining, and creative souvenirs, transforming the tournament into a cultural festival as well as a sporting event.

Comprehensive preparations are underway, supported by a “Three-Dimensional Assurance Network” covering medical care, security, reception, and transportation. Organizers emphasize that every effort is being made to ensure participants and visitors alike experience both the warmth of home and the enthusiasm of Guiyang.
