Nepal’s Musical Maverick: How Sushant KC Is Taking Nepali Sound Global
From the emotional intimacy of “Bardali” to making his mark with a T-Series release, Sushant KC has become one of the most defining voices of Nepal’s new music generation. He isn’t just releasing songs; he’s building a sound that travels across borders while staying deeply rooted in Nepali identity.
A singer, songwriter, performer, and now an evolving visual storyteller, Sushant represents a new kind of artist: one who balances vulnerability with ambition, and tradition with experimentation.
More Than a Singer: A Storyteller at Heart
Ask Sushant whether he sees himself as a singer, a writer, or a storyteller, and his answer is immediate: “For me, art is always about storytelling. Singing and writing are just the ways I naturally express that story.”
That philosophy is audible in every track he releases. His songs don’t chase trends, they chase emotion. Whether it’s love, longing, gratitude, or nostalgia, Sushant’s music often feels like a personal letter written to the listener.
One of his most powerful emotional moments came not in the studio, but on stage. “Singing ‘Aama’ live while my mom was in the crowd, that was surreal. It felt like a full-circle moment.” It’s this sincerity that has turned casual listeners into loyal fans.

Redefining Success, Not Chasing It
Despite his massive popularity, Sushant doesn’t define success by numbers or fame. “Success isn’t a destination. It’s about doing what I love. Right now, my focus is on taking Nepali music global.”
That mindset has allowed him to evolve freely. His recent work shows a clear willingness to experiment, blending electronic textures, exploring English and Hindi lyrics alongside Nepali, and stepping into more cinematic storytelling.
From the Studio to the Screen
Fans have long noticed that Sushant has a strong on-screen presence, thanks to his frequent appearances in his own music videos. Now, he’s taking that curiosity further.
He has begun attending acting workshops and is currently working on a project that pushes him far beyond his comfort zone. “I’m genuinely curious to see how the audience responds. It’s a whole new challenge.”
While he doesn’t see himself as a full-time director, he enjoys shaping the visual side of his music, ensuring that the story feels complete, both sonically and visually.
The Global Influence Behind a Local Sound
Interestingly, some of Sushant’s inspirations might surprise his fans.
From Nepal, he grew up listening to Sarun Tamrakar and Nima Rumba, whose melodic sensibilities shaped his early musical thinking. Internationally, artists like Drake influence him, not for style alone, but for versatility and emotional honesty.
“Music crosses borders. I’m excited to bring more of Nepal into new spaces while learning from different scenes.” This philosophy reflects clearly in his T-Series debut, not as a shift away from Nepal, but as an expansion of it.

Grounded, Even as an Icon
With millions of fans and a growing international footprint, Sushant admits there is pressure, but he treats it as responsibility, not burden. “If being real about both the highs and lows helps someone else keep going, then it’s worth it.”
Off stage, he prefers simplicity: quiet weekends, gaming with friends, casual jam sessions, and creative sketching that sometimes turns into official merchandise.
One destination that deeply stayed with him. He answered, Japan, for its harmony between tradition and modernity. “That contrast stayed with me. It was unforgettable.”
The Sound of What’s Next
Sushant KC isn’t finished defining his sound, he’s only just getting started. With new genres, new languages, and new creative forms ahead of him, one thing remains constant: his commitment to emotion, authenticity, and storytelling. And that is why Sushant KC isn’t just the sound of the moment; he’s shaping the sound of what’s next.
