A Blooming Story: Prajina’s Path of Musical and Artistic Growth

Prajina

Prajina is a Nepali musician and multidisciplinary artist whose journey can be summed up in three words: challenging, passion-driven, and liberating. Whether she’s writing songs, painting, capturing stories through her camera, or designing with fabric, creativity is her language of self-expression.

Music has always been a vital part of Prajina’s life—a way to release emotions and make sense of the world. As a school student, her singing performances drew praise, fueling her desire to write her own songs. She penned her first track in Grade 9 with two best friends, inspired by their shared love for Justin Bieber and pop music. That first creative spark set her on a path where she would go on to write hundreds of songs.

Introduced to American pop through VH1 and English TV shows, she later fell in love with alternative sounds after discovering Troye Sivan’s Blue Neighbourhood and Halsey’s Room 93. Today, her style blends alternative subgenres, pop, and singer-songwriter influences.

Her most personal work? “Expectations” from her EP NINETEEN, born from anger and sadness and turned into an honest, emotional track.

In Nepal’s music scene, she notes the lack of structured labels and niche audiences for alternative music. Still, her passion keeps her going. “When you’re passionate about your work, you can overcome any hurdles that come your way,” she shares.

One of her most unexpected career highlights came when Indian rapper Badshah messaged her on Instagram after hearing her song Hami. Soon, she was in Mumbai recording with him and producer Hiten—an experience she still describes as “unreal.”

While she finds it hard to pinpoint a single milestone, the delayed but overwhelming love for her song Yo Sahar a year after its release felt like a turning point. “Connecting with so many people who resonated with my music—that was the real milestone,” she reflects.
