Samir Shrestha: The Voice that Crossed Oceans

In a world of fleeting trends and overnight sensations, Samir Shrestha stands out as a soulful storyteller—a young singer-songwriter whose music resonates deeply with the heart. From singing in school corridors to performing in front of massive international crowds, Samir’s journey is as heartfelt as the lyrics he pens.

His musical voyage began at home. Watching his brother play the guitar planted a seed that soon grew into a full-blown passion. “I picked it up, started singing, and performed at school, where the compliments I got really motivated me.” Samir recalls. Those early affirmations ignited the fire that continues to burn through his evolving artistry.

As we asked about his music inspiration, Samir said that he was Influenced by icons like Bipul Chettri—whose song Ramsaili reminded him of his own voice.

“There was something in his tone that made me believe I could create something unique too,” he says of Bipul.

Alongside Bipul, he draws inspiration from other Nepali singers and songwriters, and most significantly, from his older brother who was the person that introduced him to music. This blend of personal and professional admiration continues to influence his artistic style and lyrical depth.

“Usually, it starts with a feeling,” he explains. “Sometimes the melody finds me first, other times it’s the lyrics. It depends on my mood, my thoughts, and imagination.” It’s no wonder then, that songs like Ghar Ko Kancho Choro have touched so many. Fans have messaged him saying they see themselves in his stories and some even finding hope where there was once only sadness.

Currently on his world tour, the first stop being Australia.

Samir shares, “The energy from the fans blew me away. Seeing people sing along, feel every beat was surreal. It’s an experience I’ll carry with me for the rest of the tour.”

For Samir, it wasn’t just about performing, it was about realizing how far his music had traveled. Standing on that stage, oceans away from where he started, he saw faces lit up with joy, people hyping along with the lyrics he wrote in his room. It was a full-circle moment of realization that heartfelt music knows no borders.

As we asked about his next plan, Samir teased, “I’d love to share more, but I want it to be a surprise. Just know, more music is on the way and I’m hoping for the same love you’ve all been giving me.”

From experimenting with Afrobeats and R&B to infusing Nepali folk into modern rhythms, Samir is ready to evolve and explore. But with rising fame comes new realities. Recognition has found him, but he remains firmly grounded. “My past struggles remind me where I came from. They keep me real, no matter how much things change.”

One thing is certain that his music will always carry the heart of someone who remembers where it all started: with a guitar, a dream, and a voice that refuses to stay silent.
