Eco Forum Global Guiyang 2025: Guizhou’s Green Development Milestone
GUIYANG, CHINA – June 27, 2025 – As the Eco Forum Global Guiyang 2025 approaches, Guizhou Province is showcasing a decade of remarkable progress in ecological construction, transitioning from an “Experimental Zone” to a nationally recognized “Pilot Zone” for green development. The forum will take place from July 5 to 6 in Guiyang, highlighting Guizhou’s unique model of ecological advancement combined with economic growth and improved quality of life.
A Green Transformation with Tangible Results
Guizhou, located in southwest China, has made significant strides in environmental protection. The province has achieved comprehensive improvements in air, water, and land quality:
Air Quality: All 9 key cities and 88 counties now meet Grade II air quality standards.
Water Quality: 99.1% of monitored river sections meet excellent water quality benchmarks, and all 23 exit sections are fully compliant.
Drinking Water: Centralized water sources for all counties consistently meet national standards with a 100% compliance rate.
Qiandongnan Miao and Dong Autonomous Prefecture, home to the pristine Wushui River, has maintained top-10 national water quality rankings for six consecutive years. The river has also been recognized among China’s “Outstanding Cases of Beautiful Rivers and Lakes.”
Expanding Green Industry and Low-Carbon Innovation
Guizhou is integrating green principles into its high-quality development framework. To date, the province has established:
85 national-level green factories
22 green industrial parks
A green economy now contributing approximately 48% to the overall GDP
Breakthroughs include the launch of China’s first commercial hydrogen locomotive on the Guizhou Meijin Railway and the deployment of over 3,000 electric heavy-duty trucks, reducing carbon emissions by 332,000 tons in 2025 alone.
The forestry sector has also boomed—rising from a 60.1 billion yuan industry in 2014 to 465.4 billion yuan in 2024, with forest coverage expanding from 49% to 63.3% over the past decade.
Pioneering Eco-Protection Systems
Guizhou has launched several first-of-its-kind initiatives:
The first provincial forestry carbon ticketing system in China, generating 11 million yuan through its initial issuance.
120 water rights transactions, representing over 86 million cubic meters and more than 31 million yuan in value.
These innovations are setting the stage for scalable, market-based environmental governance.
Community-Driven Environmental Stewardship
Public participation is a cornerstone of Guizhou’s green agenda. The annual “Tree Planting for New Year” campaign, ongoing for 11 years, has added 605 million new seedlings. The province now focuses on improving forest quality through restoration and nurturing projects.
It’s robust ecological monitoring network includes:
87 remote video surveillance points in Guiyang for forest fire prevention
400 infrared cameras tracking endangered species on Mount Fanjing
Over 40,000 forest chiefs safeguarding resources across the province

Efficient Resource Use and Green Innovation
Guizhou’s resource industries are shifting toward high-value and environmentally responsible production. In Qiannan Prefecture, phosphorus is now used in advanced chemical and battery materials, with total output exceeding 50 billion yuan. In the aluminum sector, Shuicheng Economic Development Zone has achieved 100% in-situ aluminum liquid conversion, with aluminum enterprises growing from 1 to 54 since 2016.
Eco-Tourism and Digital Economy Drive Growth
Guizhou is leveraging its natural and cultural assets to boost tourism and digital innovation. The Zhenyuan Loong Boat Race Cultural Festival drew 253,900 visitors and generated 234 million yuan in revenue during this year’s Dragon Boat Festival. Meanwhile, Guizhou’s digital economy has posted top-tier national growth for nine consecutive years, with 48 national-level data centers currently under development or in operation.
Guizhou’s journey from eco-experimentation to pilot leadership is a testament to the power of sustainable development. As the province continues to balance economic progress with ecological integrity, it is setting a benchmark for green innovation in China and beyond.
