Expert Tips: New Year’s Brunch Makeup, According to Muskan Goyal

New Year’s brunch sits in that perfect in-between moment: part celebration, part reset. It may not have the full glamour of a midnight countdown, but it still calls for a look that feels intentional, fresh, and uplifting. Think naturally glowing skin, soft colors that enhance without overpowering, and makeup that stays in place through mimosas, laughter, and photos- whether you’re meeting friends at a cafe or hosting a cozy brunch at home.

It’s all about balance: fresh enough for daylight, polished enough to feel celebratory. Certified makeup artist and beauty creator Muskan Goyal shares her tips for creating a soft, glowy, and long-lasting brunch look.

Brunch makeup works best in natural light, where heavy base products can appear obvious. Begin with a lightweight moisturizer and a hydrating primer to smooth the skin. Instead of full-coverage foundation, choose a skin tint, tinted moisturizer, or light foundation, and conceal only where needed. Set sparingly with a finely milled translucent powder to keep the finish fresh.

Skip sharp contouring and opt for gentle warmth. A lightly blended cream bronzer adds dimension without harsh lines. Follow with a cream or liquid blush in peach, rosy pink, or soft coral tones for a natural flush. Apply highlighter subtly on the high points of the face for a soft glow rather than visible shimmer.

For brunch, eyes should look awake and effortless. Neutral shades like soft browns, taupe, or warm champagne work well. Add light definition in the crease and, if desired, a small touch of shimmer on the inner corner or center of the lid. Use soft liner or tightlining instead of heavy eyeliner, and finish with a lengthening mascara.

Brush brows upward using a clear or tinted gel, filling sparse areas lightly if needed. The aim is natural fullness rather than heavily structured brows.

Since brunch involves eating and drinking, hydrating formulas work best. Lip oils, balm-like lipsticks, or glosses in rosy nude, peachy pink, soft berry, or warm mauve shades keep the look polished without frequent touch-ups.

A hydrating setting spray helps makeup settle into the skin and improves longevity without dulling the glow. Blotting papers are useful for managing shine without adding extra product.

New Year’s brunch makeup is about looking refreshed and put-together, not perfect. Soft textures, natural finishes, and wearable shades create a look that transitions easily from brunch to the rest of the day.

“New Year’s brunch makeup should feel like a reset: light, confident, and effortless. When you feel comfortable in your skin, it always shows.”
