Hotel Yak & Yeti Welcomes the Festive Season with Its Annual Chimney Lighting Ceremony 2025
Hotel Yak & Yeti officially kicked off the holiday season on December 4 with its beloved annual Chimney Lighting Ceremony at the historic Chimney Restaurant in Lal Durbar. The event, a longstanding tradition that blends heritage, food, and festive spirit, brought together media representatives, esteemed guests, and key partners for an intimate and meaningful celebration.

The Chimney Lighting holds a special place in the hotel’s story. The ritual traces its roots back to the legendary Chef Boris Lissanevitch, often honored as Nepal’s Father of Tourism. A pioneer of fine dining in the country, Chef Boris shaped the early hospitality landscape of Nepal. His vision continues to guide The Chimney’s culinary philosophy and timeless charm.

Guests were greeted with a festive atmosphere as the ceremony began with the symbolic lighting of the Chimney, an annual gesture that represents warmth, heritage, and the official start of the holiday season at Lal Durbar.
The evening also featured:
- A preview of this season’s special culinary creations
- A guided tour of the beautifully decorated Lal Durbar
- Opportunities to interact with the hotel’s leadership and talented culinary team
Sharing his thoughts on the occasion, Kiran Thapa, Outlet Manager of The Chimney, said:
“We’re proud to continue this beautiful tradition every year. The Chimney Lighting Ceremony is our way of honoring the cultural and culinary legacy of Lal Durbar while creating memorable experiences for our guests. We’re truly grateful to our media partners for their continued support.”

With the ceremony wrapped up, Hotel Yak & Yeti looks forward to welcoming guests throughout the festive season, continuing to balance its rich historical roots with warm, modern hospitality.
