Kathmandu Just Got a Whole Lot More French
If your March calendar looks empty, consider it officially sorted. Francophonie 2026 by Alliance Francaise Katmandou is bringing a vibrant mix of food, music, cinema, and culture to Kathmandu, and it’s anything but ordinary. Think garden vibes, live music under the stars, and a dash of Parisian flair right here in the Valley.
Friday, March 20: Cinema, Music, and Language
Live Film Concert at Patan Museum
Time: 6 PM
Venue: Patan Museum
The evening program centers on a live film concert featuring Paris Asleep, a classic silent film, accompanied by a live music from Kutumba.
Set within the museum’s atmospheric garden, the event brings together early French cinema and contemporary Nepali instrumentation. The interplay between visuals and live sound creates a layered experience: part screening, part performance; highlighting how storytelling transcends language.
French Language Workshop
Time: 10:30 – 11:30 AM
Venue: AFK Library
Earlier in the day, a French workshop led by Anne-Lou introduces participants to the language through a more interactive format. The workshop surprise emphasizes engagement and accessibility, reflecting the broader aim of Francophonie.

Saturday, March 21: A Garden Gathering
Garden Party at AFK’s Garden
Time: 10 AM – 5 PM
Venue: AFK’s Garden
The following day shifts focus to a more informal setting with a garden party that brings together food, leisure, and social interaction.
Visitors can try dishes from various French-speaking regions while engaging in activities such as pétanque. With market-style stalls and open spaces, the event leans into a relaxed, communal atmosphere.

The Buzz Take
Francophonie 2026 in Kathmandu is less about spectacle and more about exchange. Through film, music, language, and cuisine, it offers a subtle yet meaningful glimpse into a global cultural network, one that extends well beyond France itself.
