NATHM won the Marcopolo Pizza Making Competition 2023

Marcopolo Restaurant Private Limited organized the “Marcopolo Pizza Making Competition 2023” among Inter Hospitality Colleges on Wednesday afternoon, March 1. The competition took place on the first floor of the Chhaya Center in Thamel, Kathmandu. The main objective for organizing the event was to encourage creative cooking skills among the students while promoting the culinary industry and the restaurant. There were four hospitality colleges competing for the top prize in the competitions: Nepal Academy of Tourism and Hotel Management (NATHM), Nepal College of Management (NCM), Mid-Valley International College, and Global College International(GCI).

The competition was formally kickoffed by the welcome speech and the general guidelines for the competition from the CEO of Marcopolo Restaurant, Mr. Ratindra Singh. There was a three-judge panel of experienced chefs in the industry, who evaluated the participant pizzas based on their presentation, creativity, and tastes. The judges were Mr. Shankhar Shrestha (Executive Chef of Marcopolo Restaurant), Laxman Bhandari(Celebrity Chef), and Mr. Shekhar Timilsina(Chef at Rama Inn Boutique Hotel, Lal Durbar).

There were two participants from each hospitality college who had a total of 15 minutes time to prepare their own pizza recipes and bake off. Each participant got ten minutes time prior for the table set up and they had to clean the kitchen after the use. Participants got the availability of ingredients and essential equipment from the restaurant.

Aside from the competition, there was a food testing program for guests where they can taste some of their top-rated pizzas, along with complimentary drinks. There was a lucky draw and a quiz session about the pizzas among the participants where NATHM became the winner and get a discount voucher up to Rs. 2000 from the Queen’s Bakery. Likewise, the token of Love and Hydroponics was given to the judges and every college representative.

After the distribution of tokens of love, the winner of the competition was announced, and the Nepal Academy of Tourism and Hotel Management-NATHM won with its smog bacon rosemary flavor pizza. And Nepal College of Management-NCM got in second place. The winner received a Night’s Stay at Annapurna Royal Camp, while the runner-up received Dinner at Aloft Kathmandu Thamel. The official sponsors of the Marcopolo Pizza Making Competitions were Aloft Kathmandu Thamel, Queens Bakery, Chef’s Burger, Baba Adventure Travels & Tours, and Hydroponics Nepal.

To add excitement, the restaurant offered special discounts on its menu throughout the day, making it an enjoyable experience for everyone.
