Band Background
Phosphenes is a Kathmandu-based indie/pop-rock trio founded in 2016 by Abhisek Pokhrel (vocals, guitar) and Prajwal Aryal (vocals, guitar). They were later joined by Aman Karna (multi-instrumentalist/producer)
Early breakout came via their debut SoundCloud single “Dust” (2016), followed by the ‘Know This Time’ EP (2018), blending folk, alternative pop and rock.
Rise to Popularity
- The provocatively satirical “Yestai Nai Hola” (2022), critiquing bureaucratic inertia, became a viral hit with over 350k–2M+ views
- They followed up in April 2023 with ‘Simit Yaad’, a five-track EP in Nepali exploring themes of memory and introspection, earning praise for its dreamy, experimental sound
Their growing fanbase spans both English and Nepali-speaking audiences, focusing on heartfelt songwriting and genre experimentation.
What Lies Ahead
- While no formal next-album release is confirmed, members express continued drive toward deeper experimentation, with solo and collaborative projects (e.g., Prajwal’s solo exploration into sci-fi/neo-psychedelia) already underway
- International ambitions are explicit – they aim to break into larger markets like India and beyond.
Phosphenes has firmly established itself as a dynamic force in Nepali indie music – combining atmospheric soundscapes, bilingual lyrics, social themes, and boundary-pushing compositions. Tonight’s live session at Eden is tailored to showcase their unique mix of intimacy, creativity, and audience rapport.
