Ashra Kunwar Wins Best Female Pop Singer at 13th MusicKhabar Music Award 2082 for “Itihaas Timro Mero”

SingerAshra Kunwarhas won the Best Female PopSingerAward at the 13th MusicKhabar Music Award 2082 for her song “Itihaas Timro Mero.” Competing in this category against Durga Kharel (“Oi Nakkale”), Samikshya Adhikari (“Aago”), Babina Kiranti (“Mahango Mahango Dress”), and Elina Chauhan (“Chhutyo Pirim”), Ashra rose above them all to be declared the best in the category.

Beyond Music: Who is Ashra Kunwar

Beyond music, Kunwar is a PhD Candidate at the University of Florida, a TEDx speaker, and a UN Human Rights Delegate representing Nepal. She also serves as Brand Ambassador for the Agricultural Development Bank Limited and is the founder of the rock band Ashra & The Parables.

A Growing List of Honors

Her achievement at MusicKhabar adds to a growing list of honors, including the Most Influential Rock Artist (Female) award at FashionFare Awards Nepal (2023), the INAS America National Honor in Maryland, USA (2025), and Best Pop Song for the same track at the Top Shop Kathmandu Mt. 8848 Awards in New York (2025).

Inside the Ceremony

The grand ceremony, held in Baluwatar, Kathmandu, was graced by the chief guest presence of Nepal’s first Vice President, the Honorable Paramananda Jha. Held under the theme “Honoring the seniors, encouraging the juniors,” the event, now in its 13th consecutive year, presented awards across 33 categories of music and songwriting.

Presented by MusicKhabar and organized by Shubhakamana Media Solution, the ceremony was chaired by award advisor Radheshyam Lekali. Theeventwas attended by an array of distinguished figures from Nepal’s film and music industries, including Dinesh D.C., Chairperson of the Film Development Board; former minister, senior poet and lyricist S.P. Koirala; senior writer-director Mohan Niraula; senior writer-director Prakash Sayami; senior composer Shaktiballav; honored lyricist Chudamani Devkota; Basanta Bityasi Thapa, President of the Lyricists’ Association of Nepal; senior singer Devika Bandana; and senior singer Durga Raimajhi, among others.

Lifetime Achievement and Special Honors

At the ceremony, legendary composer Shambhujeet Baskota was honored with the “MusicKhabar Lifetime Achievement Award,” presented personally by Vice President Paramananda Jha. Lyricist Unnati Shila Bohara received the “Shabda Shila Special Honor,” while lyricist Bijaya Shiwakoti was presented the “Rajat Sangeet Sammaan” (Silver Music Honor). Singers Shiva Pariyar and Kalika Roka Magar were awarded the “Dashak Sangeet Sammaan” (Decade Music Honor), while Purushottam Sanu and Sushila Poudel won the “Yuva Sangeet Sammaan” (Youth Music Honor).

Sugam Sangeet and Lokdohori Winners

In the sugam sangeet (semi-classical/light music) category, Pravin Bedwal (“Hridayama”) and Sarika Ghimire (“Gun Bhulyau”) were named Best Male and Female Singer respectively. In lokdohori (folk duet) music, Arjun Sapkota and Laxmi Acharya were declared the best, while Paul Shah and Narayani Khatri claimed the Music Video Model award.

Film Category Winners

In the film category, Suraj Pandit and Jhuma Limbu were honored as Best Playback Singers, Thaneshwar Gautam won Best Composer, and Yubaraj Kafle took home Best Lyricist for film.
