Alia Bhatt Stuns in Prabal Gurung’s Pearl Dress at Met Gala 2023
The highly anticipated Met Gala returned this year with a special tribute to the late Karl Lagerfeld. The theme of the spring 2023 exhibition is ‘Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty’. Among the attendees was Bollywood actress Alia Bhatt, who made her red carpet debut in a stunning white gown designed by Prabal Gurung. The dress, which was made entirely in India, featured intricate embroidery of 100,000 pearls and was inspired by Claudia Schiffer’s 1992 Chanel bridal look.
Prabal Gurung, who was born in Singapore and grew up in Kathmandu, Nepal, started his design career in New Delhi. After apprenticeships at local fashion and production houses and working under Manish Arora, he relocated to New York in 1999 to study at Parsons School of Design and apprentice with Donna Karan. Gurung went on to work with the design team of Cynthia Rowley and later became the design director at Bill Blass before launching his own line in 2009.

Gurung’s designs have been worn by numerous famous personalities, including Demi Moore, Anne Hathaway, Kerry Washington, Jennifer Lawrence, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Michelle Obama. His works have also been seen on Bollywood actresses such as Priyanka Chopra, Deepika Padukone, and Katrina Kaif.

Alia Bhatt’s pearl gown by Prabal Gurung was a standout look at this year’s Met Gala, and it’s no surprise given Gurung’s impressive design background and portfolio of celebrity clients. The intricate embroidery and attention to detail on the dress demonstrate Gurung’s expertise and talent in the fashion industry. It’s clear that Gurung is a designer to watch, and we can’t wait to see what he’ll create next.
