Shrija Shrestha is the co-founder of Ambassador Designs, embarking on its journey in 2020 with a passion and strong belief in their vision. Since then, It has been a series of wild rides filled with ups and downs, successes, challenges, and invaluable lessons. Despite her business education in BBA and MBA, Shrija’s learning has emerged from the hands-on experiences of nurturing Ambassador Designs from its beginning. Let’s delve into the mindset of this ambitious designer.

2. What sparked your interest in fashion and clothing? And how did you get started in the industry?
My journey into fashion was sparked by a realization of what was missing in the market. Despite not having a formal background in fashion, I saw a need for a brand like Ambassador Designs that resonated with empowered women. This realization pushed me to dive into the industry headfirst, learning along the way and adapting to the demands of the market.
3. Who or what inspires you when you are creating a design?
My designs are inspired by personal experiences and observations. Whether it’s from my travels, interactions with people from different walks of life, or even my own emotions, each design tells a story. I aim to blend practicality with creativity, ensuring that every piece is not just beautiful but also wearable and meaningful.

4. What were the greatest challenges you faced in the industry?
The journey in the fashion industry has been filled with challenges, from securing funding to convincing skeptics and navigating resource constraints. However, the biggest challenges have been the ones that pushed me out of my comfort zone, forcing me to grow both personally and professionally.
5. Can you tell us about a project you are particularly proud of and why?
One project that stands out is our ‘Corporate Suit Project.’ It was a testament to our commitment to innovation and client satisfaction. Despite facing resource constraints, we successfully delivered over 1000 customized uniforms to eight corporate clients. This project showcased our ability to overcome challenges and deliver exceptional results.

6. What do you think is the most challenging aspect of being a founder and director of a clothing brand?
The most challenging aspect is the juggling act of managing multiple responsibilities. From overseeing operations to ensuring brand consistency and motivating the team, every day brings new challenges. However, it’s also incredibly rewarding to see the brand grow and evolve under my guidance.
7. What do you think is the biggest misconception about the fashion industry?
One common misconception is that fashion is all about following trends. In reality, it’s about self-expression and embracing individuality. At Ambassador Designs, we encourage our customers to “customize your highest authentic self,” emphasizing the importance of staying true to oneself.

8. What advice do you have for aspiring people who want to pursue their career in the fashion industry?
My advice to aspiring individuals is to stay true to themselves and their vision. Don’t be afraid to take risks and think outside the box. Success in the fashion industry comes from authenticity and passion, so never lose sight of what makes you unique.
9. What aspects of the fashion industry would you like to change?
Looking ahead, I’d like to see a greater emphasis on sustainability and inclusivity in the fashion industry. We need to move away from fast fashion and towards more ethical and environmentally friendly practices. Additionally, we need to celebrate diversity and ensure that everyone feels represented and included in the world of fashion.
