Gau Aayeko Bato: A Nepali Story

In a far-off village located in the mountains of eastern Nepal, a simple family faces big changes. Director Nabin Subba’s latest film, “Gau Aayeko Bato,” tells their story. After ten years away, Subba returns with this moving movie about tradition and progress.
The film follows Maila, a skilled basket weaver played by Dayahang Rai, his wife Maile, and their son Bindray, played by Pasupati Rai and Prasan Rai. Their quiet life takes a turn when a road finally reaches their village. Suddenly, buses, soda, TV, and hip hop music become part of their world. While Bindray is excited about the new things, Maila feels stuck between the old ways and the changing world outside.

Subba shows us how the family deals with these changes. They face questions about holding onto their traditions while embracing the new opportunities the road brings. With beautiful scenery and heartfelt acting, the film captures both the beauty of the Himalayas and the struggles of its people.
“Gau Aayeko Bato” set to release on May 31, 2024 (Jestha 18), reminds us that change is not always easy. It’s about finding a balance between the past and the future. Made by a team of Nepalis from all over the world, this movie speaks to everyone about the challenges of change.
