Hanok Korean Restaurant – A Taste of Korea in the Heart of Kathmandu

Established in 2020, Hanok Korean Restaurant in Sanepa, Jhamsikhel began as a family-run venture under its parent company, Hanok Korean & Nepali House. What started as a humble effort to bring the essence of Korean cuisine to Nepal has now grown into a beloved dining destination known for its authenticity, warmth, and balance of flavors.

Hanok is more than a restaurant – it’s a cultural bridge between Korea and Nepal. Its serene interiors draw inspiration from traditional Korean hanok architecture, featuring wooden details and soft lighting that create a cozy, homelike atmosphere.

Renowned for its affordability, quality, and homestyle hospitality, Hanok quickly became a favorite among expats, international travelers, and Nepali locals. Ideally located near boutique hotels and cultural landmarks, it’s the perfect stop for everything from casual lunches to elegant dinners.

1. Samgyeopsal
Korean-style grilled pork belly that sizzles at your table – Samgyeopsal is the soul of Korean BBQ. Each slice of three-layered pork belly, perfectly grilled, is wrapped in lettuce with fresh vegetables and dipping sauces. Juicy, savory, and satisfying, it’s the ultimate communal dining experience.

2. Bibimbap
A colorful bowl that celebrates balance and beauty. Bibimbap blends steamed rice with seasoned meat, sautéed vegetables, and a sunny-side-up egg, topped with sesame oil and a rich gochujang sauce. Every spoonful delivers harmony in flavor and texture.

3. Tteokbokki
Fiery and comforting, Tteokbokki features chewy rice cakes stir-fried in a spicy, slightly sweet gochujang-based sauce. A staple of Korean street food, it’s an irresistible combination of heat, chewiness, and bold flavor.

4. Yangnyeom Chicken
Crispy, juicy, and perfectly glazed – this double-fried chicken is coated in a sticky, spicy-sweet sauce that’s utterly addictive. “Yangnyeom” means seasoned, and this dish proves why Korean fried chicken is a global favorite.

5. Kimchi Jjigae
A classic comfort dish of Korea, Kimchi Jjigae is a hearty stew simmered with aged kimchi, tofu, onions, and your choice of pork or chicken. Served bubbling hot with rice, it’s spicy, tangy, and deeply soulful.
