English Gets a Gen-Z Glow-Up
“Skibidi,” “Delulu,” “Tradwife,” and “Lewk” Join Cambridge Dictionary
The Cambridge Dictionary has officially added over 6,000 new words in its latest update (August 2025), many inspired by internet culture and social media trends.
Key new entries:
- Skibidi – a playful nonsense word from the viral Skibidi Toilet meme, often used just for fun or to mean “cool.”
- Delulu – short for delusional, jokingly describing someone living in their own fantasy, especially in fandoms.
- Tradwife – short for traditional wife, referring to women embracing homemaking roles, often showcased online.
- Lewk – a standout or bold fashion “look,” designed to get noticed.
Other additions include inspo (inspiration), isekai (anime genre where characters are sent to another world), soft launch (subtly introducing a new relationship or project online), main character energy (confidence or behavior like you’re the star of the story), and many more.
Lexicographers say these words show “staying power” in digital life, marking how memes, fandoms, and trends continue to shape modern English.
