Nepali-American designer Kriti Mainali is redefiningSouth Asianfashion on a global stage. As the founder of her eponymous couture label K R I T I, she blends traditional craftsmanship with modern silhouettes, creating pieces that are timeless, emotional, and globally relevant.

A Journey Rooted in Passion

Kriti’s love for fashion began long before moving to the United States in 2020. “I’ve always loved creating my own ethnic outfits, choosingfabrics,and customizing every detail,” she shares.

After noticing the lack of personalization in mainstream U.S. fashion, she launched a brand, a reflection of her ambitions, K R I T I, initially building direct relationships with fabric vendors and designing custom pieces via Instagram. Her early clients were primarily South Asian brides, and her work soon expanded from California to Florida and New Jersey.

Her big breakthroughs came when she designed for Miss Nepal North America 2023 & 2024, showcased at Emirates Fashion Week, debuted atNew York Fashion Weekwith Runway 7, and later was invited to Paris Fashion Week, marking a full-circle moment in her career.

Kriti describes her aesthetic as a harmonious blend of South Asian craftsmanship and global luxury. Intricate handwork, storytelling elements, and detailed embroidery are hallmarks of her work.

“Every piece carriesemotion,” she says. “Whether it’s bridalwear or couture, I want the wearer to feel powerful, rooted, and timeless.” Her designs honor traditional techniques while making them globally relevant.

Kriti is inspired by the shift toward intentional fashion. She shares that people nowadays are appreciating craftsmanship, handmade work, and cultural storytelling which is very meaningful fordesignerswho work closely with artisans.

Conversely, she avoids fleeting,fast-fashiontrends driven by virality. “Fashion should have depth and longevity. It should be something you feel proud of years later,” she notes.
