“Everything, Everywhere, All at Once”, a 2022 American Absurdist comedy-drama film dominated the Oscars on Sunday night, winning seven awards, including best picture, best actress, best director, best editing, best-supporting actor, best-supporting actress, and best original screenplay. “Everything, Everywhere” was all over the Oscar Ceremony with 11 nominations and able to grab seven of them, bringing tears to the set. This is the most hardware for any movie since “Gravity” equaled that total in 2009, a tally last exceeded by the best picture winner with “Slumdog Millionaire” 14 years ago.

Over the awards season, the film, a crucial milestone for Asian representation in American cinema, won various groups’ honors for acting, directing, and best picture. Directors Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert took home the Oscar for the best director. Likewise, Michelle Yeoh won best actress, making her the first Asian star to take the award. Kwan and Sceinert won the best original screenplay. With their tearful acceptance speeches, Jamie Lee Curtis and Key Huy Quan also raised the Oscar for supporting roles. This year’s ceremony had four Asian performers competing in different acting categories for the first time. The 60-year-old Malaysian-born Yeoh won her first Oscar and became the first Asian woman to be the best actress for her lauded performance in “Everything, Everywhere, All at Once.” It’s the first best actress win for a non-white actress in 20 years. “Everything, Everywhere” was a surprising theatrical blockbuster, generating more than $100 million worldwide, setting a record for its independent distributor, A24.

More tears flowed when Brendan Fraser was rewarded for his work in “The Whale” which became his major comeback in the movie, ending his hiatus. Ruth E. Carter, the first Black woman to win two Oscars for “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” glanced up and requested the late Chadwick Boseman to care after her mother, who died recently at the age of 101.

Among “EO”, “The Quiet Girl”, “Close”, “Argentina,1985”, the ”All Quiet on the Western Front,” Germany, lifted the Oscar in International Feature Film category at the 95^th Academy Awards at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. Not only that “All Quiet on the Western Front” was also able to wrap the Oscar for production design, best cinematography, and original score.

Telugu action-film sensation “RRR” sensational song “Naatu Naatu” beat Lady Gaga’s ”Hold My hand” from “Top Gun: Maverick” and Rihanna’s “Lift Me Up” from “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” to become the best original song.
