MTR Expands in Kathmandu with New Outlet at Kamal Pokhari

Food lovers in the capital have more to celebrate as MTR, the iconic South Indian pure vegetarian restaurant brand, opens its newest outlet in Kamalpokhari, opposite City Center. The grand opening event will be held tomorrow, August 12, from 1 PM to 5 PM, marking another exciting chapter in MTR’s journey in Nepal.

Brought to Nepal by the Le Sherpa Concept Group in 2023, MTR has quickly earned a loyal following for its authentic flavors and commitment to quality. Following the success of its first outlet near Pashupatinath, the brand is now expanding to serve even more communities, with Kamalpokhari becoming its second prime location in the city.

MTR’s arrival in Nepal has been more than just the launch of another restaurant, it has been a cultural exchange, bringing with it the rich culinary heritage of South India. The menu at the new Kamalpokhari outlet will feature MTR’s signature dishes, including the ever-popular fluffy Idli, crispy Dosa, aromatic Bisi Bele Bath, and a variety of other traditional delights prepared with time-honored recipes and the freshest ingredients.

“The response to MTR has been overwhelmingly positive, and it’s clear there’s a strong demand for authentic South Indian food in Kathmandu. The new locations in Kamalpokhari and Pashupatinath allow us to serve a wider community and share the unique taste and experience of MTR with more people.”

Designed to provide a warm and inviting atmosphere, the Kamalpokhari outlet will cater to all kinds of diners: from families enjoying weekend lunches to busy professionals grabbing a quick bite. In addition to dine-in services, customers can enjoy takeaway, delivery, and catering options from 8 AM to 10 PM daily.

The launch event promises to be a flavorful celebration, welcoming food enthusiasts to experience MTR’s hallmark dishes firsthand. Guests attending the grand opening can expect a vibrant and hospitable environment that reflects the brand’s century-long tradition of excellence.

Founded in 1924, MTR (Mavalli Tiffin Rooms) has grown into a global culinary institution while staying true to its roots. Its expansion in Nepal, under the guidance of Le Sherpa Concept Group: known for hospitality ventures such as Le Sherpa Restaurant, Farmer’s Market, Piano Piano, and Nomad Hotel, reinforces its mission to deliver high-quality, authentic dining experiences.

With the addition of Kamalpokhari, MTR is set to make authentic South Indian cuisine an even bigger part of Kathmandu’s food culture.
