Nepal Bounce Back in Style, Secured Victory Against Oman by 81 Runs at Kirtipur

Six days after a humbling defeat, Nepal came back to the same ground, against the same opponent, and made it count.

Revenge is a dish best served at the Tribhuvan University International Cricket Ground, and on May 5, Nepal served it in emphatic fashion. Just six days after being beaten by 102 runs via DLS by Oman at the same venue, Nepal turned in one of their most complete performances of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2 home series, defeating Oman by 81 runs to claim a result that was as important as it was satisfying.

Nepal, having won the toss and elected to bat, posted 256 all out in 49.5 overs. The innings was anchored by Aasif Sheikh, who wasoutstandingthroughout, falling just six runs short of a century with a composed knock of 94 off 97 balls. His innings gave Nepal the platform they needed and earned him the Player of the Match award, a well-deserved recognition for one of Nepal’s most dependable batters.

When it was Oman’s turn to chase, Nepal’s bowlers made sure there was no way back. Gulshan Jha was the standout performer, returning figures of 5 for 38 in 9 overs in a spell that dismantled Oman’s batting lineup and effectively ended the contest as a competition. Oman were bowled out for 175 in 39.5 overs, falling 81 runs short of Nepal’s total.Sandeep Lamichhanealso chipped in with wickets, continuing his remarkable run in the competition.

The win is hugely important for Nepal’sICC CWC League 2campaign. Nepal currently sit seventh in the standings with 16 points from 23 matches, with USA, Scotland, Oman, and Netherlands occupying the top four positions that earn automatic qualification to the Cricket World Cup 2027 Qualifier. The road ahead remains steep, but wins like this one against a top-four side are exactly what Nepal need to keep their hopes alive.

Next up for Nepal is a home match against Scotland on May 12 at Kirtipur, followed by USA on May 16. Both matches are must-win if Nepal are to make any realistic push up the table. But for now, let the team enjoy this one. They came back, they performed, and they won when it mattered.
