Pokhara High Court acquits actor Paul Shah from rape allegation

Today, Monday, February 27, exactly one year after his detention on a rape charge, famous actor Purna Bikram Shah, also known as Paul Shah, is being released. On Sunday, a bench of judges- Dilli Raj Aacharya and Shridhara Kumari Pudasaini of the Pokhara High Court gave him a clean chit. They claimed that the prosecution’s allegation was insufficient and cited a lack of sufficient proof to prove Paul Shah’s guilt.

The District Court Nawalparasi convicted Shah to two years and six months in prison, fined him Rs 25000, and ordered him to pay one million rupees in compensation to the victim on September 6, 2022. The District Public Prosecutor’s Office and the Shah side filed an appeal in the Pokhara High Court against the same District Court decision.

Actor Shah was detained on February 27, 2022, following the filing of two accusations by the victim’s father. The District Court Tanahun verdict is welcomed by a sizeable number of Shah’s supporters.
