Tanahun District Court acquits Paul Shah of rape charges

Although actor Paul Shah has been acquitted of rape charges by Tanahun District Court, he will still be in jail.

The actor Paul Shah was accused of raping a minor. Judge Kamal Prasad Acharya of the District Court announced the verdict on Tuesday, citing a lack of adequate evidence to prove the guilt of Paul Shah.

The district court in Nawalparasi (East) sentenced the actor to two years and six months in prison on September 6, 2022, and Shah will continue to be held there.

Paul Shah was accused of raping a 17-year-old singer with a false promise of marriage in a complaint that was filed in February 2022.

The singer then amended her statement and denied being raped, as she had initially alleged while giving a court statement in April last year, claiming that the details provided in the earlier allegations were fake.

Despite this modification to her testimony, the court found Shah guilty, concluding that by exploiting the anguish of a young girl, he had broken the law and committed an immoral act.

Renowned actress Pooja Sharma, one of the close friends and well-wishers of Paul Shah, shared happiness on being acquitted of rape charges by Tanahun District Court and uploaded a post on Facebook with the caption, “I was always with you and my happiness knows no bound.”
