Project Kasero 2.0: Clean-Up Hike to Tarevir Marks World Environment Day

world environment day

On the bright morning of 24th Jestha 2082 (June 7, 2025), a passionate group of environmental enthusiasts set out on a meaningful journey to celebrate World Environment Day. The Innovative Open Crew, a youth-led organization under Nepal Scouts, spearheaded a Clean-Up Hike to Tarevir as the official launch of Project Kasero 2.0 an upgraded version of their ongoing environmental initiative.

The hike to Tarevir took place through two scenic yet often neglected trails:
Route 1: Taulung – Chihandanda – Narayandanda
Route 2: Wasik – GP Koirala Park – Narayandanda
Together, these paths witnessed the footsteps of around 80 dedicated individuals, all committed to a single purpose: restoring the natural beauty of Nepal’s hiking trails.

The event saw the enthusiastic participation of members from various scout crews, representatives from organizations like Ultimate Venue, Lemon Tree Premier, Duke of Edinburgh Office Nepal, Chandanath Battalion (Nepal Army) and many more. In a collective effort, the volunteers managed to collect around 20 bags of waste, making a visible impact on the trail’s cleanliness and setting a strong example for responsible hiking.

Following the clean-up, Ultimate Venue took the initiative to install traditional doko baskets along the trails, transforming them into eco-friendly dustbins. To add a greener touch, around 20 plants were planted within the Ultimate Venue premises, reinforcing the hike’s motto:

“Leave nothing but green footprints.”

Originally launched in Asar 2080, Project Kasero began as a humble effort by the Innovative Open Crew to clean lesser-known hiking trails around Nepal. In just a year, the team successfully organized clean-ups on six trails, raising awareness about trail conservation and promoting sustainable hiking habits.

Encouraged by the overwhelming support and visible impact, the team has now initiated Project Kasero 2.0, a year-long commitment to clean at least one hiking trail each month. This new phase also includes a more sustainable approach with waste segregation, aiming for better waste management practices.

Project Kasero is not just about collecting litter. It is a call to action. A reminder that we, as visitors to nature, carry the responsibility to preserve it. With the growing participation and support from diverse communities and institutions, Project Kasero is evolving into a youth-driven environmental movement in Nepal.

As the hike on June 7 marked the commencement of Project Kasero 2.0, it also served as a powerful reminder that real change begins with small, consistent steps and in this case, with a hike that left behind nothing but green footprints.
