Kathmandu, April 6, 2026 — Ri Mo Kathmandu launched Art Kathmandu 2026 at the Kathmandu Marriott Hotel, opening what is Nepal’s biggest contemporary art showcase. The event was inaugurated by Mrs. Sabina Kafle, a public health professional, writer, and cultural advocate, and the spouse of Rt. Hon. Prime Minister Balen Shah, along with celebrated actress and media figure Mrs. Swastima Khadka, before an audience of dignitaries, diplomats, artists, and press.

Running under the theme “A Convergence of Lineages,” the exhibition brings together more than 108 Nepali artists from various generations and disciplines. Visitors can explore paintings, sculptures, installations, and mixed media works that sit at the crossroads of tradition and experimentation, heritage and innovation, and local and global storytelling.

Ri Mo Kathmandu Director Mausam Bohora noted that the event was born from a genuine desire to give Nepal’s artists a platform to express themselves authentically. He described the exhibition as a reflection of Nepal’s growing confidence in shaping its own cultural identity, one that honors both its roots and its contemporary evolution.

Everest Hospitality Managing Director Gaurav Agarwal echoed this sentiment, sharing that his longstanding personal connection with Nepali artists and their work inspired the collaboration. He expressed pride in offering a stage that honors both the depth of Nepal’s artistic heritage and its modern direction.

Held at the Kathmandu Marriott, the exhibition underscores a mutual commitment to nurturing creativity, encouraging artistic dialogue, and establishing Kathmandu as a dynamic center for contemporary art.
