Skin and Hair Care Tips for Holi

While Holi is one of the most fun festivals, the use of colored powders and water  during the celebrations can have some negative effects on hair and skin. Here are some tips to help protect your hair and skin during Holi, while you have your “Balam Pichkari” moment.

Oil your hair

Before heading outside to play Holi, oil your hair and scalp. Coconut oil is the best. This will make it simpler to remove the colors later by washing your hair and protecting it from the damaging chemicals in the colors.

Apply petroleum jelly

Prior to actually heading outside to play Holi, cover your face and any exposed skin with a thick layer of petroleum jelly or coconut oil. As a result, it will be simpler to later wash the colors off and produce a barrier between your skin and the colors.

Wear clothes that does not expose your skin

When celebrating, cover your skin by donning long sleeves and full pants. This will lessen the likelihood of the chemical infused colors clinging to your skin and irritating it or causing rashes.

Be mindful about the choice of colors

Use organic and natural colors as opposed to synthetic ones. Natural pigments derived from flowers, herbs, and vegetables are less harmful to the ecosystem and your skin and hair.

Do not use warm water to wash off

After the festivities, completely rinse your skin and hair with warm water. Hot water and abrasive soaps can dry out your face and harm your hair. So, avoid using them.
