Kathmandu, Nepal – June 26, 2025

In a groundbreaking step toward environmental responsibility in Nepal’s hospitality sector, Aloft Kathmandu Thamel has become the first 5-star hotel in the country to receive the prestigious ‘Waste Smart Certificate’. The recognition was awarded by Creasion Ventures Inc., in collaboration with Creasion Nepal, honoring the hotel’s exceptional commitment to sustainability and inclusive community impact.

This milestone follows the hotel’s recent Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Navish Nepal Pvt. Ltd., in collaboration with Creasion Ventures Inc., a strategic collaboration designed to create a structured plastic waste collection and recycling program. With immediate implementation, the program ensures regular, responsible collection of plastic waste – ranging from used bottles to wet amenities like shampoo and bath gel containers – which are then recycled according to national environmental standards.

“This collaboration reflects our belief that environmental responsibility, especially under Marriott International’s Serve 360, is a core part of hospitality,” said Vikram Singh, General Manager of Aloft Kathmandu Thamel. “We are proud to take the lead in setting new sustainability standards in Nepal.”

But the hotel’s green efforts go beyond recycling. The initiative actively supports inclusive livelihood creation by repurposing collected materials into eco-souvenirs for hotel guests, offering a unique blend of environmental awareness and guest experience. There are also plans underway to explore circular solutions, such as recycling old hotel uniforms into new, usable products.

By taking this bold step, Aloft Kathmandu Thamel is not only leading by example in Nepal’s hospitality industry but also encouraging a broader shift toward sustainable practices and circular economies within the region.

This certification marks a pivotal moment in the country’s journey toward a greener future – and a powerful reminder that sustainability and hospitality can go hand in hand.
