Benefits of Intermittent Fasting with The BUZZ Expert
Fasting, traditionally, is an age-old practice rooted in diverse cultures, serving purposes from religious and spiritual to health and even psychological well-being. It involves abstaining from food for a specific period often for cleansing, purification and attaining spiritual grace.
In today’s fast-paced world, the concept of fasting has evolved. It is now adapted to individual needs, taking into account factors such as digestive health, body type, allergies, and personal goals. One of the most popular modern approaches is intermittent fasting (IF), a structured eating pattern that cycles between periods of eating and voluntary fasting.
Unlike traditional diets, IF doesn’t focus on what you eat, but when you eat. Popular methods include time-restricted eating (like the 16/8 method, where you fast for 16 hours and eat during an 8-hour window) and alternate-day fasting. While it has been a major health trend in the West for years, awareness about IF is gradually gaining momentum in Nepal.
Benefits of Intermittent Fasting (IF):
- Boosts weight loss: Alternate day fasting can trim body weight & enhance fat loss by lowering bad cholesterol (LDL) thus reducing triglyceride levels.
- Promotes secretion of Human Growth Hormone: Naturally produced by the body, human growth hormone (HGH) is used to treat obesity and help build muscle mass, important for burning fat.
- Normalizes insulin sensitivity: Studies suggest that IF, especially when combined with a healthy diet, can improve how the body responds to insulin, potentially reducing insulin resistance.
- Autophagy: IF can induce autophagy, a cellular process where damaged or unused cellular components are recycled. HGH plays a role in stimulating autophagy, promoting cellular health and longevity. It usually takes effect after 18 hour or more of fasting time.
While intermittent fasting offers several potential health benefits, it’s not a one-size-fits-all solution. Anyone considering IF should ensure it suits their body’s needs and seek professional guidance if necessary.
From a centuries-old spiritual practice to a scientifically backed wellness trend, fasting continues to prove that sometimes, giving your body a break can be one of the best ways to nourish it.
