From Roots to Trails: Aloft Kathmandu Thamel’s Bold Move for the Planet
Kathmandu, 5th June 2025 – In a powerful celebration of World Environment Day 2025, Aloft Kathmandu Thamel made a lasting environmental impact by contributing to Marriott’s milestone of planting 100,000 trees across India and Nepal. The hotel not only planted over 700 trees but also organized a staff-led clean-up hike along the picturesque Tarebhir trail bridging the gap between restoring nature and preserving it, demonstrating a bold commitment to sustainability.
This initiative is part of Marriott’s expanding green mission, building on the success of its 2024 “Two Trees per Room” campaign. In 2025, Marriott scaled up its environmental ambitions, mobilizing associates and local partners to reach the significant 100,000-tree milestone, with Aloft Kathmandu Thamel playing a key role.
A Dual Approach: Healing the Earth, One Tree and Trail at a Time
Aloft Kathmandu Thamel’s World Environment Day efforts were more than symbolic. Over 40 hotel associates actively participated in a clean-up drive on the Tarebhir hiking trail, collecting plastic waste and other litter along the route. The initiative emphasized sustainability while promoting environmental health, physical well-being and community connection.
“This year, we chose to take action on two fronts—planting trees for the future and cleaning up the present”, “The 700 trees we planted and the waste we cleared from the Tarebhir trail are both steps toward a greener, more mindful community. At Aloft, sustainability is not a slogan—it’s a culture we live and breathe every day.”- Vikram Singh, General Manager of Aloft Kathmandu Thamel.
Marriott’s Regional Green Milestone
Marriott’s 100,000-tree initiative across more than 150 hotels in India and Nepal was carefully planned in collaboration with reforestation experts. Trees were planted in areas prioritized for biodiversity enhancement, ecosystem restoration and local community benefit ensuring long-term ecological impact.
“Marriott India is incredibly proud to have successfully achieved our goal of planting 100,000 trees, a testament to our profound dedication to environmental responsibility,” “This ambitious goal truly underscores our belief that sustainability is not just a passing trend, but a fundamental pillar of responsible hospitality.”- Sanjay Gupta, Chairman of the Marriott India Business Council.
Beyond this annual event, Aloft Kathmandu Thamel continues to set a benchmark in eco-friendly operations from energy-efficient systems to comprehensive waste management practices, the hotel remains dedicated to reducing its environmental footprint all year round.
Aloft Kathmandu Thamel is proving that sustainability thrives through action, collaboration and culture. As part of Marriott’s global vision, the hotel is helping to build a greener, cleaner and more conscious future right from the heart of Kathmandu.
