Phosphenes Release Full-Length Album Sleep on the Grass Today | May 12
Kathmandu-basedindieoutfitPhospheneshas released their biggest album yet. The band — made up of Prajwal Aryal and Abhishekh Pokhrel, has dropped Sleep on the Grass, a 14-track album that marks their boldest step toward an international audience.
Known for blending alternativerockand dream pop, the duo have been building anticipation with singles like “Supercomputer Space,” which opens with a cosmic, echo-laden atmosphere layered over sturdy drums and experimental guitar work, all wrapped in the band’s signature atmospheric sound.
The title track sets the tone with the line “Wake up slowly, don’t chase the city lights”, a fitting mantra for an album rooted in existential themes and multilingual songwriting. The record features songs in both English and Nepali, reflecting the band’s dual identity and expanding creative range.
Phosphenes first broke through with their satirical hit “Yestai Nai Hola” in 2022, which went viral for its sharp critique of bureaucratic inertia in Nepal, and followed it up with the Nepali-language EP Simit Yaad in 2023. Sleep on the Grass represents a significant leap forward, a full album that cements their place as one of Nepal’s most compellingindependentacts.
Give it a listen. Let the 14 tracks breathe over you like a slow afternoon. And who knows, by the end, you might find out the reason why their music has a hold on fans. Eklai Huda Ta Jhan.
