12 Gaun 2 Has Begun Production, and the Scale Is Already Impressive.

The sequel to one of Kollywood’s most commercially successful Dashain releases has begun production, and the scale of it is already turning heads.

When 12 Gaun released on Phulpati in October 2024, it walked into one of the most competitiveDashainlineups in recentKollywoodhistory and held its own, eventually earning Rs 220 million at the box office. For an action film about a son’s quest for vengeance against a tyrannical village chief who murdered his parents, that was a significant result. The real-life father-son pairing of Biraj and Samir Bhatta added another layer of appeal that audiences clearly responded to. Biraj Bhatta had delivered a commercial hit, introduced his son Samir to mainstream Kollywood audiences, and set the stage for exactly what has now been confirmed: a sequel.

12 Gaun 2 officially beganproductionlast Wednesday with atraditionalworship ceremony at Raju Painter Studio in Chyasal, Lalitpur, and the production team has wasted no time in making clear that this is not a small follow-up. Twograndsets worth around Rs 3 million have already been built at the Chyasal studio specifically for the film, signaling a level of production investment that sets 12 Gaun 2 apart from its predecessor from day one.

Biraj Bhatta returns as director, with his son Samir Bhatta once again in a lead role. The sequel brings back familiar faces alongside some new additions. Kafiya Shahi joins as Samir’s on-screen love interest, while Anup Bikram Shahi steps into a negative role, adding a new dramatic dimension to the story. Barsha Itani and Prakash Shah round out the cast. Cinematography is handled by Mahesh Paudel, story and screenplay by Santosh Sarkar, and action direction by Stunt Silva and Shankar Maharjan. Music will feature multiple composers and vocalists.

Filmingwill run for approximately 60 days across Kathmandu, Sindhupalchowk, and Chitwan, starting with a song sequence featuring Samir and Kafiya. Distribution rights have already been confirmed, with Govinda Shahi handling the Valley and Kuber Distribution managing outside.

The film is targeting a Phulpati release during Dashain 2083, putting it in direct competition with whatever elseKollywoodbrings to the table during the festive season. Given how the first film performed in a crowded Dashain lineup, that confidence appears well-founded.
