Rooted in Resilience and Grace

Beauty with Brains: Miss Nepal 2025 – Luna Luitel
In an exclusive interview with The Buzz Nepal, Miss Nepal 2025 Luna Luitel opens up about her life before the crown—her unexpected start in pageantry, her academic and humanitarian pursuits, and the convictions that guide her.
Freshly crowned and radiating confidence, Luna Luitel stands as the embodiment of modern Nepali womanhood—graceful, grounded, and guided by purpose. At just 26, this Kathmandu-born trailblazer has already charted an inspiring path that bridges continents and causes. With a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing and ongoing studies in Public Health at the University of Sydney, Luna carries a rare combination of intellect, empathy, and ambition—qualities that extend far beyond the Miss Nepal crown.
Her journey began a decade ago when she participated in Miss Teen Nepal 2015, a decision she describes as spontaneous and unplanned. “I joined just for fun,” she recalls. “I didn’t take it seriously—but becoming 1st runner-up changed my perspective.” Soon after, Luna moved to Australia, a transition that shaped her worldview and strengthened her resilience. “Living abroad taught me empathy, adaptability, and confidence,” she shares. “It allowed me to see the world from multiple perspectives—growth that truly prepared me for Miss Nepal today.”

1. With a background in nursing and your current studies in Public Health, how do you see your medical and academic knowledge supporting your advocacy work?
Even if Miss Nepal hadn’t happened, I always knew I’d come back to Nepal to give back. I co-founded Avina Care, a community-based nursing initiative that provides home-based nursing, physiotherapy, and medical services for elderly parents whose children have migrated abroad. It allows me to apply my nursing expertise here in Nepal while addressing an important social need.
2. You’re a certified scuba diver! How did you get into diving, and what role does travel and adventure play in your life?
I love traveling and exploring new places—I’d call myself a true hodophile. Food isn’t a big part of that since I’m vegan (mostly due to being lactose intolerant), but adventure definitely is. Scuba diving, in particular, taught me how to remain calm and composed under pressure. When you’re underwater, panic is the last thing you can afford. That stillness has carried into other parts of my life, including the stage. Traveling also broadens my perspective and helps me appreciate the world through other people’s eyes.
3. In the final round of Miss Nepal, you spoke about changing perceptions of beauty pageants. What message do you hope to send to young women in Nepal through your platform?
For me, beauty has never been about the external—it fades with time. True beauty is the legacy you leave behind. Miss Nepal isn’t about physical appearance; it’s about purpose, voice, and impact. The platform empowers women to amplify their message to thousands, even millions. That’s why I believe every young woman who meets the criteria should participate—it’s about strength, not surface.
4. Representing Nepal at Miss World is a huge responsibility. What cause or message do you most want to share on the international stage?
I want to represent Nepal as an independent nation with its own identity. Too often, I’ve seen people in Australia confuse Nepal with India or China, assuming our identity lies closer to one or the other. But we are proudly Nepali, and I want to carry that message—that we are unique, resilient, and independent—onto the Miss World stage.
5. With so many commitments from studies to advocacy to pageantry, how do you keep yourself balanced, both mentally and emotionally?
It always comes back to my roots and my support system—my family. They’re my world. Challenges will always come, but with belief in yourself and the right mindset, you move forward. I live by the idea that even in “impossible,” there’s I’m possible. Grounding myself in family and faith helps me stay balanced.

6. When you’re not fulfilling your Miss Nepal duties, how do you like to spend your free time?
I love playing the flute—it relaxes and centers me. Swimming is another passion, as is solving the Rubik’s Cube. These little hobbies bring peace and joy in between responsibilities.
7. Nepal is full of beautiful places. If you could travel anywhere in the country tomorrow, where would you go and why?
Definitely Everest Base Camp. Trekking has always fascinated me, and EBC has been on my dream list for years. It’s not something you can do overnight, but it’s absolutely a destination I want to experience.
8. What’s one fun fact about you that people might be surprised to know?
I speak a bit of Italian! I learned it while caring for a patient who didn’t speak English. Initially, we relied only on non-verbal communication, which was tough and emotional, so I started learning Italian to connect with her better. It soon became a passion—I love the language, culture, and even the food.
