In this interview, Soniya shares her unique perspective on the modeling industry and offers valuable advice for aspiring models.

What would be the best way to introduce you?

My name, I think, would be the best way to introduce myself. That, in my opinion, is what gives me my identity as Soniya. The adjectives “resilient,” “enthusiastic,” and “driven” are the finest ways to describe myself, however when introducing myself briefly, SONIYA would be the best.

What inspired you to become a model?

Although I have always been drawn to the world of modeling, which includes lighting, cameras, runway, shoots, cosmetics, and designs, and despite enjoying these aspects of life for a number of years, I do not think of myself as a model. If you know what I mean, I would much rather be a lover of the notion of becoming a model.

What sets you apart from other models?

While I agree that each model has distinctive qualities of their own that distinguish them separately, I feel that in my situation, the love and respect I have for what I do sets me apart from everyone else. I believe what makes me distinct is how I matured and emerged in this profession, not just to be the one, but to grow as a person who can make a significant difference.

Can you describe a particularly memorable modeling experience you’ve had?

Ahhh. Each step I’ve taken, from the audition day to rehearsals to getting ready for the runway and walking with confidence, affects me differently every time I think back on the events. I can’t speak of any, so there aren’t any.

What is your dream modeling job?

My ideal modeling position would undoubtedly be that of a fashion lawyer. I want to be the person in charge of the fashion industry’s laws. I get goosebumps every time I consider it, but I’m working on it.

What do you think is the most challenging aspect of being a model?

Maintaining oneself consistently is, in my opinion, both the most challenging and pleasant aspect of modeling. As a model, I think you have individuality, beauty, and an aura that reflect within you. This is something you do not naturally have; you have to work hard for it. It was a little challenging for me to mix my studies with my desire to work in the media and fashion industries as a student, but I also really enjoyed it.

Can you describe your typical day as a model?

As I mentioned earlier, I’ve never thought of myself as a model, but on the occasions when I’ve participated in projects and events, the day has been filled with pandemonium, excitement, and, quite honestly, a bag full of supplies for the day. The typical day, though, was always the same as other days. Just a quick reminder to anyone who believes that people in the modeling industry have sophisticated days every day: we are also regular people going about our daily lives.

How do you handle the competitiveness in the modeling industry?

With Confidence.  Period.

What do you think is the future of the modeling industry?

I observe individuals in today’s society being so particular about what they use, what they wear, and what precisely suits them. Everyone also has their own sense of style. As a result, I believe there will be plenty of opportunities for the fashion business in the future. I think that many more incredible trends and fashions will soon rule the globe, and I’m quite interested in what the future of fashion has in store for me.

Can you describe a time when you had to be creative during a shoot or show?

I’ve always been creative, and no matter what I do or where I go, I must always have this quality since it more than anything else allows me to become who I am. As far as the runway goes, I believe the Christmas performance I performed in 2021 was the one where I had to be innovative. I felt like I had to be careful to showcase the designs of the three designers I was representing in the best possible light because their styles were so different from one another.

What do you think is the key to a successful modeling career?

Confidence and consistency. Never stop learning, and always believe that you still have more to learn and grow.

What do you think the role of a model is in promoting body positivity and diversity in fashion?

Fashion, in my opinion, never defines disparities in anything. I believe it is for everyone, everywhere. It never expresses right or wrong. It simply exudes confidence. Fashion is for everyone to feel their best, no matter what they are wearing, how they are styling themselves, what size they are, what color their skin is, or what gender they are.

What do you think is the most important skill for a model to have?

It must unquestionably be a communication ability. Your ability to communicate in this industry greatly contributes to your ability to build a network and relationships in this industry. It is better for you to develop as a model if you know more individuals.

Have you ever had to deal with criticism about your appearance? If so, how did you handle it?

I guess I’ve always heard

criticize my height. I’ve had people say things like, “I wish you were tall enough so you could get into this project and all that,” but I’ve never let it stop me. I had no trouble taking such criticism because I have always loved my body, mind, and spirit. I never felt self-conscious as a result.

What advice would you give to aspiring models?

Embrace a mindset of optimism and have unwavering faith in yourself while remaining confident and embracing your unique qualities. Accept yourself as you are, with all your flaws and imperfections, and never cease to learn from the experiences that life presents you. This approach can lead to a life filled with growth, fulfillment, and a deep appreciation for the journey.
