Beijing Chaoyang International Light Festival: Weaving a Luminous Fairy Tale with Technology

An Immersive Nighttime Spectacle Along Beijing’s Liangma River

A golden autumn breeze brushes past the banks of Liangma River, as dazzling lights illuminate Chaoyang’s night sky. From September 26 to October 31, 2025, the Beijing Chaoyang International Light Festival Consumption Season transforms the riverside into a realm of enchantment, where high-tech installations such as the aquatic “Magic Cube,” “Soaring Over the Blue Lake,” and “Lonely Planet” infuse the city with futuristic allure.

Centered around the Liangma River Cultural and Economic Belt and the Olympic Center, this year’s festival showcases nearly 100 cultural, tourism, commercial, and sports activities, including performances, exhibitions, and themed markets that blend art, light, and commerce in harmony.

An evening stroll along the Liangma River invites romance. From Yansha Pier to Solana, visitors encounter shimmering Crystal Light Flowers, glowing cloud-shaped benches, ginkgo-inspired installations, and trees wrapped in kaleidoscopic hues—casting a radiant spell along both banks.

At the heart of Chaoyang Park’s North Lake, the colossal “Magic Cube”—a cubic structure with nine rotating tiers—creates shifting patterns of light that surprise and delight like opening luminous blind boxes. Nearby, “Lonely Planet” offers a tranquil space on the water: transparent dome-shaped “bubble pods” glowing softly like stars, elegantly merging technology, ambiance, and connection.

At Shell Theater, an aerial light show unfolds across land, water, and sky, where luminous figures of mythical creatures such as the Kunpeng and galloping horses dance through beams of light. The performance fuses innovation and artistry, crafting a three-dimensional myth that mesmerizes onlookers.

“It’s a symphony of culture, nature, and urban life in perfect harmony,” remarked one enchanted visitor.

Redefining nighttime leisure, the 2025 Beijing Chaoyang International Light Festival turns this riverside into a destination where romance meets innovation—an unforgettable celebration of light, art, and imagination.
