Aa Bata Aama 2 Is Officially in Production, and a Dashain Release Is on the Cards
One of Kollywood’s biggest hits of 2082 is getting a sequel, and filming has already begun.
It has been just a few months since Aa Bata Aama wrapped its theatrical run, and the numbers it left behind are hard to ignore. The Chandra Pant directed family drama, starring Paul Shah and Bipana Thapa, grossed Rs 131.38 million at the domestic box office, making it the second highest-grossingNepali filmof 2082 behind only Paran. Audiences connected deeply with its story of a young man preparing to leave Nepal for a better life abroad, and the emotional weight of the mother-son relationship at the film’s core struck a chord that clearly resonated far beyond the cinema hall.
Now, the team is back. Aa Bata Aama 2 has officially gone on floors following the directors promise in late February, to come back with a sequel. The production has officially kicked off with an auspiciousceremonyat Banglamukhi Temple in Patan.
Director Chandra Pant returns behind the camera, continuing the story he started in the first film with new elements woven in to deepen the narrative.Paul Shahand Bipana Thapa reprise their roles as son and mother, the relationship that anchored the original and made it the emotional powerhouse it was. Pradeep Rawat and Gajit Bista also return from the original cast, while new faces Aakash Shrestha and Naren Khadka join the ensemble.
The film is targeting a Dashain release, one of the most competitive and lucrative slots in theKollywoodcalendar. A Dashain release for a family drama centered on motherhood and homecoming is as fitting a choice as it gets. The festival season audience is large, emotionally primed, and exactly the demographic that made the first film such a success.
Director Chandra Pant noted that casting is still ongoing, particularly for female roles, with the full lineup expected to be confirmed shortly. The shooting schedule will also be announced soon.
Aa Bata Aama told a story that millions of Nepalifamiliescould see themselves in. The sequel arrives with the weight of that success behind it and the task of building on it. If the first film is anything to go by, Aa Bata Aama 2 already has an audience waiting.
